A game concept design I made during my studies at Futuregames.
It is based on a pitch design made by fellow game design student, Ivan Bulygin.

 

The assignment was to take the pitch I’ve just designed, and swap it with another student. Then turn the other student’s pitch into a game concept.

Description

A fast paced and brutal story based top-down shooter for people who miss old linear games. Player must clear levels by killing enemies of various types.

Background

The game takes place in late 21st century, which is the junction between the world as we know today, and the cyberpunk era. The military and law enforcement personnel have legal access to implant enhancements, but these things also circulate in the black market, among criminals.

You play as a police officer, who investigates a murder case, which leads him to an area where gangs sell human organs and implants.

The game draws heavy influence from early 90’s games, such as Syndicate (weapons and cybernetic upgrades), and Jagged Alliance (top-down projection).

Gameplay

Action Map
Main Character

Player can move, turn around and shoot. He walks though the level and shoots any enemies he encounters. Occasionally they drop loots the player can pick up for himself. There is a limit to personal resources the character can bring to each mission.

Opponents

Follows a pre-determined route. Can break away from patrol path if main character is detected, but will eventually return to original pattern.

Early opponents are without enhancements and fairly easy to take out, but mid- and late game opponents will be more challenging.

Each level will have a boss, who you need to beat in order to complete the level and carry on to the next one.

There will be repeatable secondary (“bonus”) levels, which the player can turn to, in order to find better enhancements and equipment, especially if there’s a boss the player is unable to beat with the current loadout.

Levels

Each level will consist of several rooms and corridors. Some levels will be easier to complete, if the player takes time to observe and look for alternative routes or hidden passages.

There will be different themes after a set number of completed levels, in order to provide some variation and freshness.

Fast-paced single player cyberpunk action shooter played from top-down view. Suited for people who want to let off some steam and test their reflexes.

Realistic with neon colors. Dirty ghetto areas of the near future. A mix of present time and futuristic cyberpunk environment.
